Newer models offer increased safety and security. Look for an opener with Wi-Fi built-in for smartphone control. These are usually available with either a belt- or chain-drive. While chain-drive openers are cost-effective, they are noisy, meaning that you may want to consider a belt-drive if someone sleeps above the garage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Battery Backup<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some smart garage door openers include a battery backup. In the event of a power outage, openers with a fully charged battery will work for 24 hours or 20 full cycles (one open and one close = one cycle), whichever comes first. You must purchase a new unit as retrofits don\u2019t currently exist.
